The act of making a tile :)

The empty mold made previously.

A slice of clay gets added

I hand compress it in, using mostly a paddle and roller.

Trimming the extra with wire.

Cleaning up with a rib.

My custom stamp :)

So pretty.

Added the hole to hang it with.

A view of the tile.

Fresh from a mold.

Also, freshly released.

New fairy tile :)

And off I went again on a fantasy subject. I meant to do a wildlife related one, but you know how it is.

Roughing it out:

Almost there:

Under plaster! Eek. Always the scary part.

The finished mold!

I always have leftover plaster, so I ran outside and snipped a piece of the cypress tree off, pressed it into clay, and then readied the clay for the pouring. Sure enough, I had a little extra, so on it went. Now I have a lovely little extra mold for sprigs, etc. :)

Dragon Tile

I am working on a series of carved tiles. This dragon tile is one of them. It's a deep relief tile. Hopefully this will make an appearance next year at Dragon*Con and Necronomicon :)

First, I sketch the subject:

Cut out around the image, remove one layer of clay.

Refining:

Ready to go - it's on the glass and awaiting the cottle frames and plaster :)
